NS-2 Networksimulator on Ubuntu Gutsy

Here are excellent step-by-step instructions to install ns 2.31 on Ubuntu 7.10, which by the way is no problem at all.
Just note that by copying the path setting commands for .bashrc there might be a "new line" inserted where none belongs (e.g. XGRAPH=... was a too long command to fit into my windows -> a newline where none belonged).

Error:
bash: LIB:/usr/local/lib: No such file or directory
